Frequently Asked Questions
What do I bring to a meeting? Bring the items you need for your project. This could include your sewing machine, thread, scissors, materials, cutting mat, iron. We have tables that have power outlets and there are outlets in the floor of the room that we use.
What if I am not interested in the project being presented? That’s no problem, join us anyway. Bring the project your are working on and work on that. We understand that what is being presented isn’t always something you are interested in. An email is sent out ahead of the meetings to let you know about the project/presentation and what materials are needed.
What is the Give-Away Table? This is a spot at our meeting where you are free to bring your unwanted fabrics, books, patterns and notions. Please keep it related to quilting/sewing. This is a great way to get rid of that fabric you thought you loved or the orphan block you don’t know what to do with. We all have that growing stash of scraps, bring it. Chances are someone will give it new life. If what you brought doesn’t find a home, please take it back with you. We get to see some amazing projects out of Give-Away Table materials.
Are there dues to join or a commitment? No. This is a casual community group. We are a fun group that gathers because we love to quilt. Occassionally there may be a project that has a paid pattern or materials for a kit to use, but we try to keep these to a minimal cost. These are all optional. The patterns that are shared with the group are found on public websites and are free. This group is great at sharing resources.
Does the library have sewing machines or anything else that we can use? Yes, the Maker Space has several Brother Sewing Machines that can be borrowed. You would just reserve one with the reference desk. You will need thread and bobbins. They also have an iron and ironing board, as well as cutting mats that we have borrowed to use during our meetings.
